Fall plans are coming together!

After nearly 6 months of anxious waiting for what our fate would be next fall (school? in the same city as one another? work? through AmeriCorps? in a coffee shop? in Chicago? in Boston? in the US at all? homelessness?) We have been blessed with direction and some answers... So, here is what we have so far:

School? YES! Mike got into the University of Chicago Divinity School's MA in Religion--and a half tuition grant guaranteed for two years. For those not in the academia fishbowl that has become our whole frame of reference, this is a REALLY BIG DEAL! UofC has the best (or maybe second to Harvard Divinity School) program in Religious Studies in the Nation. Check out their faculty...

In the same city as one another? YES! Well, I don't know if I will be attending school, teaching school, working at AmeriCorps or working somewhere else this fall, but it will be in Chicago as well. We received letters of rejection both from Boston University (Mike) and Boston College (Me).

Work? While Mike will be busy in class, I still have hopes for gainful employment this fall. I have had one interview for a not-for-profit affiliated with UofC (they have been good to us so far... ;)) and am in the process of lining up two more interviews in the coming several weeks. More details as they become available.

Homelessness? Well, we certainly hope not, but housing is still a bit up in the air right now. We are interested in finding one bedroom apartments in the following neighborhoods: Lincoln Park, Hyde Park, Lakeview, Wrigleyville, Logan Square, or other places that are nice and have access to public transportation... If anyone reading this has any leads, we are very interested, let us know!

Thanks again to all our dear family and friends who have held us up in prayers in these past difficult months. UofC will offer its own set of challenges, but ones that we are eager to embark upon!

Hi Yvana,

Just popped onto your blog from facebook. If you need help with your apartment search let me know. My boyfriend is a property manager in the city and he probably would be able to help you find a place. If you want his contact info let me know!

Peace,
Aubrey

I'm gonna do the thing that your previous post hoped people wouldn't do: fit in with their responses, giving the cultural norm, so that it can be recorded (whether by tape or on a blog):

Congratulations on getting into U of C, tis a very good thing. Hyde Park is beautiful and wonderful, although there's very few places to drink, which I know you'll miss. ;)

Thanks Stu-B... We truly appreciate it. That is a bummer about the lacking pub-ness. I guess we will have to make do some other way--maybe by making our own? Hope you can come and visit when you are around!

Of course, my self-disgust at fitting in the with the "cultural-norms" was because it wasn't being honest with myself... I hope that wasn't the case in your well wishes, was it?
